White House Shares Israel’s Goal in Preventing Nuclear Iran

Washington, Sept. 28 – Following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the United Nations General Assembly, which focused on the threat of Iran’s fast-developing nuclear program, the White House reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

"As the prime minister said, the United States and Israel share the goal of preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said."The president made that clear to the world in his UNGA speech this week. We will continue our close consultation and cooperation toward achieving that goal."

Netanyahu also met with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Thursday evening. The meeting came just hours after Netanyahu’s speech, in which the prime minister used a diagram to illustrate the progress that Iran’s nuclear program has made in recent months. The illustration quickly became the most talked about incident of yesterday’s U.N. proceedings, with “Bibi” and “#Netanyahu” both trending on the social media website Twitter yesterday afternoon.
